Hindustan Zinc Ltd.

Over here in Visakhapatnam, we are at Eb-71 in the Zinc Colony. Being near the Zinc Smelter means the air always has a bit of a specific feel to it. It’s humid most of the time, so the papers on our desks always feel a little damp. We’ve been part of the Hindustan Zinc Ltd. setup here for quite some time. The colony is a world of its own, with everyone knowing who works in which department. Our office is just a standard building, nothing special to look at. We handle a lot of the local coordination and paperwork for the smelter operations. You can hear the hum of the plant in the distance if it’s a quiet night. We have a small garden out front that someone tries to keep alive, but the salt air makes it tough. Mostly, we are inside under the fans, typing away or checking logs. It’s a lot of routine stuff, but it’s important for keeping the plant running. We aren't trying to impress anyone with fancy furniture or big speeches. We just show up, do the work, and go home to our families in the same colony. Sometimes we have tea breaks under the big tree near the gate. It’s a predictable life, but we like the stability of it. The Vizag weather can be a bit much, but we’ve all got our umbrellas ready for the rain or the sun.
