We are located over at WB 43 in the Western Township, which is part of the Zinc Quarters in Gajuwaka. Being here in Vyzag is quite different from the inland sites in Rajasthan. You get that salty air from the coast, though Gajuwaka is very much an industrial heartland. This part of Andhra Pradesh is always buzzing because of the plants and the port nearby. Our office is basically just one of the quarters converted for our use by Hindustan Zinc Limited. It is a very lived-in area. You see kids playing in the township and people heading to the markets after their shifts. It is not the kind of place where you wear a suit and tie every day. Most of us just wear what is practical for the humidity and the dust. The Western Township has been around for a long time, so the buildings have that weathered look you get near the sea. We do not have any glossy brochures or fancy slogans. We just stay on top of the paperwork and the local coordination that needs to happen for the Vizag operations. It can get pretty loud with all the machinery and trucks in the distance, but you stop noticing it after a while. It is just a regular workplace in a regular neighborhood. We focus on the day-to-day stuff and making sure everything at WB 43 stays on track without making a big fuss about things. The heat here is different, it’s the humidity that gets you.
