Gangavram Port Ltd

This is the technical wing of the port operations here in Visakhapatnam. The work we do is mainly focused on the engineering and maintenance side of the port. We don't spend much time in fancy offices; mostly we are out where the machines are. When we are at our desks, we are dealing with technical drawings, repair schedules, and equipment logs. The Sr. Manager of the technical department stays busy keeping track of all the heavy machinery that moves the cargo. Working at a port in Andhra Pradesh means dealing with a lot of heat and humidity, which isn't great for the gear, so we have to stay on top of things constantly. We are a group of engineers and technicians who just like to get our hands dirty and fix problems. There is always something that needs attention, whether it's a crane that isn't moving right or a conveyor belt that has snapped. We keep our notes in rough diaries and on a basic computer system. It’s not the kind of job where you wear a suit. We are usually in work clothes, ready to head out to the berths whenever something goes wrong. We focus on the practical side of keeping the port running because if the machines stop, everything stops. It’s a high-pressure job but we have been doing it long enough to know the rhythm of the docks.
