If you go down to No. 60/1 on Vinayagar Kovil Street in Ayyanapuram, you will find Sugha Textiles. We are right there near the temple, so it is a landmark everyone knows. The street can get pretty crowded during festival times, which makes things interesting for us. Inside, it is mostly rolls of cloth and the smell of new fabric. We spend the day measuring out lengths and talking to people who come in. It is a local operation, nothing too big or fancy. We have been in Ayyanapuram for a long time. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are usually too busy to worry about that. We just focus on the textiles. Sentence lengths vary because that's how we talk. Sometimes it's just a quick "hello" and other times we sit and chat while we work. The Vinayagar Kovil is a big part of the neighborhood life here. We see the same faces every morning when we open up the shutters. It’s a lot of manual work, carrying the heavy bundles from the back to the front. We don't use any high-tech systems. We just write things down in our ledgers and keep track of what we have. It is a simple way of doing things, but it has worked for us so far. We just keep our heads down and stick to what we know. Most of our days are spent just moving fabric and helping people out.
