Sivakasi Offset Printers is down at 125, P.K.N Road. You can usually tell when you’re close because of the smell of ink and the sound of the machines running. We’ve got some big presses in here that take up most of the room. It’s a loud place to work, but we’re used to it. We do all kinds of printing work, mostly the regular stuff like cards, brochures, and forms. It’s a lot of manual labor, loading the paper and checking the colors. The floors are usually stained with a bit of ink, no matter how much we scrub. We’ve been on P.K.N Road for a long time. It’s a straightforward business. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room. People just come into the main area and tell us what they need. We look at the files and then we get the machines started. Some days are really busy with big orders, and other days are a bit slower. We spend a lot of time maintaining the machines because they’re old but they work well. We don't have a big corporate structure. Just a few of us who know how to run the equipment. It’s a solid trade and we’ve been doing it this way for years. If you need something printed, we’re usually here from morning until the evening. We just keep our heads down and get the pages through the rollers as fast as the machines can handle them.
