Polythreads

Down here at 148 Srirangapalayam, things are usually pretty steady throughout the week. We’ve been working with threads for a long time. The building isn't anything special to look at from the outside, but inside we have our machines lined up and running. It’s a rhythmic sound, the spinning and the winding, almost like a heartbeat for the whole place. Srirangapalayam is a good area for this kind of work, and we feel like we fit right in with the local community. We deal with lots of different types of thread, mostly for industrial use by other shops. My clothes always have little bits of lint and fiber stuck to them by the end of my shift. We aren't a massive corporation with a board of directors or anything. It’s just us, the local staff, making sure the spools are wound tight and the colors are right. Sometimes we run out of a certain material and have to wait for the delivery truck to navigate the narrow streets, which can be a bit of a headache for us. But we manage to get by. People know where to find us if they need thread for their own small shops or factories. We don't do much advertising; we just rely on the fact that we've been here and people know we do honest work. The tea stall around the corner is where we usually take our breaks and talk about how the day is going. It's a plain life, but it's ours.
