Our place, Malati Machines Pvt. Ltd., is over at 651 Gnanagiri Road. We’ve got a lot of forklifts and other heavy stuff sitting around the yard and inside the shop. It’s a busy street, so there’s always noise from the traffic outside mixing with the sound of the tools inside. We spend a lot of time checking engines and fixing up the hydraulics. It’s heavy work, and your back definitely feels it by the end of the day. The building itself has seen better days, but it keeps the rain off the machines and gives us a place to store everything properly. We have a small area in the front where we do the paperwork, but mostly we’re out on the floor. People know us for being on Gnanagiri Road for a long time. There is a specific smell to the place—a mix of old oil and cold metal—that you just get used to. Sometimes a customer comes by to look at a machine, and we just walk them around the floor to show them what we’ve got. We don't have any brochures or fancy displays. You just see the machines as they are. Some are brand new, others are being worked on. We try to keep things moving, though sometimes parts take a while to arrive. It’s just the way it goes in this line of work. We show up, do the repairs, and try to keep the place somewhat tidy before heading home.
