Sri Venkateswara Polytechnic College

This college is located out in Kaludur, which is part of the Veppur area in Perambalur district. It’s a bit of a drive for some of the staff, but the students here are used to the commute from their villages. We mainly focus on technical things, so you’ll see a lot of workshops with tools and machines lying around the place. It’s not a quiet campus because there’s always something being hammered or a motor running in one of the labs. Most of the guys and girls here are from the surrounding rural areas, mainly around the 606304 zip code in Tamil Nadu. They come here to get their diplomas and learn how things work with their hands instead of just reading books. The buildings are plain, just concrete and paint, nothing too special to look at. We spend most of the day in the labs or the classrooms. The weather in Perambalur can be quite tough, especially in the middle of the day, so the fans are always going at full speed. We have a small canteen where everyone goes for lunch to get some rice. The teachers have been around for years and they know the syllabus inside out. We don’t really do fancy brochures or advertisements. People hear about us from their neighbors or relatives who studied here years ago. It’s a practical place for people who want to learn a trade and get to work as soon as they can.
