Sri Ganesar Rice Mill

Running Sri Ganesar Rice Mill takes up most of our time here on Arni-Polur Road. You can find us at No:68/25 in Kalambur Post, which is usually a pretty busy area for local trade. It's a loud place once the machines get going, especially in the middle of the afternoon. People in Polur Taluk are used to seeing the trucks lined up outside our gate. The work is mostly about handling the paddy that comes in from the nearby fields. Inside, the air is thick with the smell of grain and a bit of dust. It isn't a fancy setup, just some sturdy walls and the milling equipment we’ve used for years. Most mornings start before the sun is even fully up because there is always a lot to get through. My father and I handle most of the daily tasks, from checking the moisture to making sure the bags are tied tight. Sometimes the old machines act up and we have to spend an hour or two with a wrench. It’s just how it goes in this line of work. We don’t have much in the way of an office, just a small desk where we keep our books. If you stop by, you'll probably see us covered in a bit of husk. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know. We don’t make a big fuss about things. We just try to get the rice cleaned and packed so people can get on with their day.
