Sri Auro Annai Stone Carvings Centre & Gifts Shop is located at No. 158 Meetu Street. We are right opposite the Auroville Health Centre in Kuyilappalayam. It's a nice, quiet spot compared to the bigger cities. We spend our days working with stone and looking after the gift shop. You can usually hear the sound of chiseling if you walk by during the day. There is stone dust on almost everything, including the windows and our clothes. It’s hard work, and our hands are always a bit rough from the carving. We have all sorts of stone pieces and other small gifts for people who visit Auroville. The shop is simple, with wooden shelves and a stone floor that we sweep every evening. We don't have a big team, just a couple of us who have learned the trade over time. Sometimes we sit outside on the bench when it’s not too hot. We don't have a fancy catalog or a big sign. Most people just wander in after visiting the health centre across the street. It’s a slow pace of life here in Kuilapalayam, and we like it that way. We aren't looking to become a giant factory. We just enjoy making things with our hands and selling them to people who appreciate the effort. It’s a modest business, but it keeps us busy. We hope you stop by next time you’re near the centre.
