Ramesh Store

Ramesh Store sits right on the Nh-234 Tiruvannamalai Main Road in Kedar. Being on the highway means we get a mix of local people and folks just passing through on their way to the temple city. The traffic is constant and there is always a bit of dust coming in from the road. We spend a lot of time wiping down the glass jars and the counter because of it. We keep a lot of cold drinks and snacks ready for the travelers who stop their cars outside. Then we have the regular grocery items for the families living here in Kedar. The shop feels a bit narrow when there are too many people, but we make it work. Most days are spent watching the trucks go by and waiting for the next customer. We have a small TV in the corner that we keep on for the news or some cricket if a match is on. Sometimes the heat is quite bad, so we have a couple of old fans that make a lot of noise. We don’t have a fancy sign or anything, just the name above the door. It’s a practical spot for a shop and we’ve been here long enough that people know where to find us. It’s mostly just about keeping the shelves filled and making sure the fridge stays running properly. The tea shop next door usually sends over a glass of tea around eleven and we chat for a bit.
