Gunabalan Store

I’ve been here at Gunabalan Store in Aminjikarai for a long time now. Marakkanam is a quiet enough place, but our shop stays pretty busy most mornings when people are heading out to start their day. We keep all the usual things you’d expect to find in a small shop like this. It’s mostly just me and a couple of others making sure the shelves aren't empty. Sometimes the heat gets a bit much, but we have a fan that helps. People around here know where we are, right on the main stretch. We don't really do anything fancy, just sell what people need for their kitchens or their homes. It’s a lot of lifting boxes and checking dates on packets. You get to know everyone's name after a few years. It's funny how you can tell what time it is just by who walks through the door. The morning crowd is always in a rush for milk or bread, then it gets quiet around noon. By evening, it picks up again with people getting stuff for dinner. We try to keep the place tidy, though with the dust from the road outside, it’s a bit of a losing battle. Anyway, that’s basically what goes on here. We've been at 046 Aminjikarai for as long as I can remember. It’s just a normal store run by normal people. We don't have big signs, just the shop.
