Deapnath Soap Works

We are located at 99 Main Road in Pudupet, right in the heart of Panruti T.K. It’s a lively place to be. The smell of soap is usually the first thing people notice when they get close to our workshop. We’ve been making soap here for a long time now. It’s a bit of a messy process, with the vats and the drying racks taking up most of the space. My hands always smell like lemon or sandalwood even after I go home for the day. Being on the main road means we see everything that goes on in town. The dust from the street comes in sometimes, so we spend a lot of time wiping down the counters. We aren't a big factory with robots. We do things by hand, or with the old machines that we’ve fixed up a dozen times. It’s just how we learned to do it from the older generation. People from the surrounding villages often stop by when they’re in Panruti for the market. We keep the soap in simple wrappers because the fancy packaging just adds to the cost. We prefer to keep things simple and affordable for the local families. There’s always tea being made in the back, and we often sit there for a break when the heat gets too much. It’s not a glamorous job, but there’s a certain satisfaction in seeing the finished bars stacked up and ready to be sold to our neighbors. It's a busy life.
