Agriculture (Growing Of Rice)

Out here in Vikarabad, specifically in Pedlimadugu, we focus on rice. Our place is at house number 3-64. Growing rice is a lot of waiting and a lot of water. You have to watch the levels every day or the crop fails. We’ve been doing this in Chinchelpet for quite some time now. It’s not a job where you get to sit down much. During the planting season, everyone is in the mud. Then we wait. The sun gets hot out here, but that’s what the rice needs. We don't have a big corporate setup. It's just a local operation run from the house. When harvest time comes around, things get very hectic. We try to keep the machinery running, though it likes to break down at the worst times. We sell what we grow and keep some for ourselves too. People in the village know where we are if they need to talk. We don't really do much else besides the rice. It takes up most of the year. The cycle repeats and we just follow it. It’s a bit repetitive, but it’s what pays the bills. Sometimes the monsoon is late and we worry. But usually, it works out okay in the end. We just keep going because the land is what we have to work with every single day. The work is hard, but it's what we have done around here for a long time.
