Ramana Rice Shop

We are right in the heart of Tarapet at 78 Main Road, inside the Main Bazar. It’s a very crowded area with a lot of noise from the shoppers and the vehicles outside. Our shop is a simple place with a wide front that stays open all day. We keep many different types of rice in large gunny bags. Some are open so people can feel the grain before they buy it. We have a small wooden counter where we keep the cash box and a notepad for writing down sales. There’s a ceiling fan that works most of the time, but it still gets quite hot in the afternoons. We don't have any fancy signs or advertisements. People find us by walking through the market. We spend a lot of our time helping customers choose which rice is best for what they want to cook. We weigh everything out on a digital scale now, which is one of the few modern things we have. Sometimes we have to carry heavy 25kg bags out to the street for the older customers. It’s a long day, starting early to beat the heat and closing once the market thins out. We’ve seen many other shops come and go, but we’ve stayed right here. It’s just a basic shop where we try to be helpful and keep things simple for everyone.
