Rahul Ice Cream

You can find us at 1-19-58 on Pulipativari Street in the Tarapet area. It is a narrow street and things can get quite crowded when the delivery carts are trying to get through. Our shop, Rahul Ice Cream, has been a part of this street for some time now. We usually start our day early, around six or seven, to check on the batches we made the night before. There is a lot of cleaning involved in this business because milk and sugar get sticky if you aren't careful. We don't have a marketing team or anything like that; we just open the shutters and wait for people to come by. Most of our customers are folks who live right here in Tarapet or work in the nearby shops. You might see me sitting on a stool outside when the shop is empty, just watching the world go by on Pulipativari Street. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but the ice cream tastes the same regardless of what the building looks like. It is a family thing, really. We all pitch in when it gets busy in the evenings. The heat in this part of the country is no joke, so we do our best to keep the machines running without a break. It’s a lot of work but it’s what we know how to do. We just keep our heads down and work. It's a simple living for us.
