Freelance Consulting Architect

I set up my drafting table in flat B/2 at Amrutha Homes. Layola Gardens is a nice enough area in Vijayawada, though the roads can get pretty dusty when they’re doing construction nearby. Being a freelance architect means I spend a lot of time on my own, just sketching and thinking about how to fix problems for people's homes. There isn't a big staff or a receptionist at the front door. If you come by, it’s just me. I handle the consulting part, giving advice on what can be built and what might not work so well. Dealing with clients involves a lot of back and forth. Sometimes we meet at a cafe, but mostly I’m right here working. The buildings in Andhra Pradesh are changing, and I try to keep up with what's happening. I’ve been doing this for a while now. Some days are packed with three different projects, while others are just spent waiting for a phone call. It’s not a corporate lifestyle at all. Wearing comfortable clothes and working when the inspiration hits is how I like to do it, which is often late at night. I like the freedom it gives me, even if it’s a bit stressful sometimes when deadlines get close. I've learned a lot about how things actually get built on the ground here. I'm just a local person trying to help others with their building projects. It is a quiet way to work, and it suits me.
