Sabala Handicrafts

Sabala Handicrafts is over in the Samatha Building on B. Bagewadi Road. We’ve been operating out of Keertinagar for a few years now. It’s mostly just a large space filled with rolls of fabrics, loose threads, and half-finished items. Local women come in to work on their pieces throughout the day. It’s often a bit loud with everyone talking and the sound of work going on. We started this because there was a need for a place where these traditional skills could actually be used to make some money. It’s not a showroom where everything is perfectly polished and lit. You’ll see piles of materials in the corners and on the tables. We try to keep things organized but when you’re making things by hand, it gets messy pretty fast. Keertinagar is a good area for us. The building is easy to find if you’re coming down from the main road. We don't have a big marketing budget or a fancy website. Most people find out about us from their neighbors or by walking past the Samatha Building. It’s a community thing more than a big business. We spend our days checking the stitching and making sure we have enough supplies for the next week. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit by the big window to use the sunlight. That’s just life here. We enjoy what we do and we stay busy with the work.
