Mari Cold Drinks

Out here in Vijayapura, the weather is usually pretty warm, which is actually good for what we do. We are at 981 on the Jalanagar Main Road. It’s right in the Kanakadas Colony neighborhood. Mari Cold Drinks is just a small spot where people can pull over their bikes and get something cold to drink. We’ve got the coolers lined up against the back wall. The floor is plain concrete and we have to wash it down every morning because of all the dust from the main road. We don’t have any fancy tables or chairs, just a few plastic ones out front for whoever wants to rest. People stop by on their way home from work to grab a drink and talk for a bit about the news. The main road is always noisy with buses and bikes going past at all hours. We’ve lived in Kanakadas Colony for most of our lives, so we know almost everyone who walks through the door by their first name. It’s a simple business. We buy the crates, we keep them cold, and we sell them. We don’t have a big staff, just family helping out when things get really busy in the middle of summer. Some days the heat is really intense, and we just sit by the fan and wait for the sun to go down. We’ve been at this same spot for years now.
