Working at Sri Narayani Hospital & Research Centre in Thirumalaikodi means you’re always around people. The building is quite big and it’s located in an area that gets a lot of visitors. Since it’s both a hospital and a research center, there’s a lot going on at once. You might see a group of students one way and patients waiting for their appointments the other way. The hallways are long and have high ceilings, which helps a bit with the heat during the summer months. We have a lot of windows that let in the light, though they mostly look out onto the other buildings of the campus. It’s a very functional place. There’s no plush carpeting or expensive furniture here, just metal chairs and sturdy tables that can handle the daily wear and tear. The receptionists stay busy answering questions about where the different labs are located. Most days start early with the cleaning crews finishing up before the first patients arrive. We have a routine that everyone follows to make sure things don't get too chaotic. It’s a lot of walking for the nurses, back and forth between the wards. People come here because they need help, and we just try to provide a clean and organized place for them to get it. It’s a major part of the landscape here in Thirumalaikodi and it feels like a small village of its own sometimes with everything happening at once.
