If you go down Bazzar Street in Kaveripakkam, you'll eventually find us at number 36. It’s a typical hardware shop. We have stuff piled up almost everywhere—buckets, rolls of wire, boxes of nails, and all sorts of electrical fittings. It can look like a total mess to someone walking in for the first time, but we generally know where every single thing is kept. Kasi Electricals and Hardwares has been a part of this street for quite a while now. Most of our customers are locals from around the village or farmers who need something fixed on their property. We spend a lot of time cutting specific lengths of wire or weighing out nails for people. It’s dusty work and by the end of the day, our hands are usually pretty dirty from handling the metal and the pipes. We open up early because that's when people are out getting things they need for their day's work. The shop gets very crowded on market days, and it can be a bit chaotic with everyone asking for different things at the same time. We don't have a fancy computer system for the stock; we just use old ledgers and our own memory. It’s a simple life. We chat with the neighbors and watch the traffic go by on the street. Sometimes we just sit outside on a stool when the business is slow. We just provide the basic items people need to fix their houses.
