Deccan Tourstravels

Out here in Vellore, we run Deccan Tourstravels. The office isn't much to look at from the outside, just a door and a window with some old posters of different cities. Inside, we have a few chairs and a desk where we keep the ledgers and the computer. It gets really hot in Vellore, as everyone knows, so we have a small AC unit that tries its best but usually struggles in the afternoon. People come in mostly to ask about bus timings or to book a car for a wedding or a trip to the city. We spend a lot of time on the phone, checking with drivers and making sure everyone is where they are supposed to be. It can be a bit chaotic when three people walk in at once while the phone is ringing, but we manage. My desk is usually a mess of keys and sticky notes with phone numbers on them. We don't have a big staff, just me and a helper. We’ve lived in Vellore all our lives, so we know the roads pretty well. It’s not a glamorous job, but we like talking to the travelers and hearing where they are headed. Some days the internet is slow and we have to do everything by hand, but that’s just how it goes sometimes. We are just here, day in and day out, watching the traffic go by. There is a small calendar on the desk with photos of hills.
