Uma Ladies Corner

If you are walking down G.T. Road in Nadesar, you’ll find us right across from the old Taksal Cinema. Being in Varanasi, it gets really loud with the traffic and the rickshaws outside, but inside Uma Ladies Corner, it’s usually just us chatting. I started this place because I noticed there wasn't a good spot nearby to get small things like bangles, bindis, or matching thread for suits. We have rows of shelves filled with different items that ladies need for their daily wear or for a special function at home. Some of the boxes are stacked a bit high, so I have to use a stool to reach them. It’s a small shop, really. If three people come in at once, it feels full. We also do some basic beauty work in the back corner if someone asks. Most of the women around here know my face. We talk about the movies playing across the street or how the weather is changing. Sometimes a customer will just stop by to say hello even if they don't buy anything that day. That is just how things go around here in Nadesar. I try to keep the stock updated, but sometimes I forget to reorder things until they are gone. It’s a bit messy but we know where everything is kept. There's always some dust from the road, but we clean it every morning.
