Shyam Hair Cutting Saloon

Being in Varanasi, specifically on Kabir Road, means there is always a lot of noise and people outside. Our shop in Lahurabir is right in the middle of all that daily rush. I open up early because that is when people want their morning shaves. The shop isn’t very large and we have just the basic things like mirrors, spray bottles, and a couple of old clippers. It gets very busy during the wedding season or when there is a festival in town. You can hear the temple bells and the motorbikes from the street all day. I have lived in Varanasi all my life so I know most of the people who walk through my door. We talk about the weather or how the river is looking these days. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint soon. We keep a stack of old newspapers for people to read while they wait their turn on the bench. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a short break to drink. It is a simple life running a salon in this part of the city. We do not have air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that wobbles a bit when it is on high. It does the job though. We just focus on cutting hair and keeping the equipment ready for the next person. Shyam Hair Cutting Saloon is just a regular part of the street.
