Pindra Kotwa Badagaon Arajiline Handloomweaver Producer Company Limited

Our group is based over at Nehiya, specifically at the place known as M/S Destitute Lok Kalyan Silk Bunkarsahakari Samiti. It’s a long name for a group of people who just want to keep the handloom tradition alive. We are a producer company made up of weavers from Pindra, Kotwa, and Badagaon. Most of us grew up watching our elders work the looms, so it’s just what we know. The sound of the shuttles moving back and forth is something you hear all day long here. It is not a quiet place, but it is a good sound. We handle silk and other threads, trying to make things that people will actually want to wear. It’s not always easy being a cooperative. We have to agree on things, and sometimes the meetings go on for a long time. We aren't some big corporate office in a city. We are right here in the village area where the work happens. The dust from the yarn gets on everything, and our hands are usually stained from the dyes or rough from the threads. We just focus on the weaving. It’s a slow process compared to the big mills, but that is how handloom is. We stay busy with the orders that come in from the samiti and try to make sure everyone gets their fair share of the work. It keeps us together and provides for the families around here.
