Nish General Store

Our shop, Nish General Store, is right on the main road in Bhadaini, Assi. If you know Varanasi, you know how busy this area gets with people going toward the ghats. We have been sitting here at B-2/236 for a good while now. The shop is small but we pack a lot of things inside. Every morning starts with cleaning the dust off the jars because the road outside is always full of vehicles and smoke. We sell all sorts of things, from biscuits to cleaning items and toothpaste. It's a lot of work keeping everything organized. Some days are slow and we just sit on the stool and watch the traffic go by. Other times, three people want things at once and it gets a bit hectic. We don't use any fancy computers for billing, just the old way with a pen. The light in the back of the store is a bit dim, but we know where everything is kept. Neighbors stop by to chat sometimes while they pick up their milk or bread. It’s a normal life here. We don't have big signs or anything. Just the name over the door. Assi is a nice place to be, even with all the noise. We try to keep the staples in stock so nobody has to go too far. It's just a regular local shop for the people living around here. We've been here long enough to see kids grow up.
