New Bread Of Life is on Assi Road in Shivala, right across from Ratnakar Park. Varanasi is a city that never really sleeps, but our corner feels a little more relaxed. We get a lot of people who are on their way down to the ghats for the morning prayers. The early morning is the best time here because the air is fresh and the street isn't too crowded yet. We aren't a big bakery with fancy machines. It is just a small shop where we bake a few things every day. We have a couple of benches where you can sit and have a cup of tea. Our oven is quite old and we have to keep a close eye on it so nothing burns. Sometimes the bread looks a little different from day to day because everything is made by hand. My wife does a lot of the baking and our son helps out when he isn't at school. We know almost everyone who lives on this street. They come in to talk about the news or just to say hello. We don't have bright lights or a big sign, just a simple wooden board outside. It is a quiet way to make a living. We just like making something people can enjoy while they walk over to the park or the river.
