About Murti Bhandar Jaipur Wale – Building & Construction Material in Varanasi
We are located at D-15/69 in the Dashwamegh area. If you have ever been to this part of the city, you know how busy the lanes are, especially being so close to the river. Our shop is full of statues and carvings in different sizes. We have pieces of marble and stone sitting around, and the sound of chisels hitting stone is something you hear all day long. My family comes from Jaipur, which is why we have that in our name, but we have been here for a long time now. The air is always a bit white with stone dust, and we have to wash the floors down every evening. We sell all kinds of idols and decorative pieces. Some are small enough to fit in your hand and others take four men to lift. People come in from all over, some just visiting the ghats and others looking for something for their homes. We don't have a fancy display; the statues are just lined up on the floor and on wooden shelves. Sometimes we sit out front on a small stool when the shop is quiet. It’s a very old way of working. We talk to the customers about the different stones and how long a piece took to carve. Every day is different depending on who walks through the door, but the work of carving and cleaning the stones never really stops.
