Umrai Fashion Crafts

We are set up in the Jagannath Puri Market on Station Road in Lohta. Being so close to the station means it is always noisy with the sounds of trains and people rushing around. Our shop is inside Umrai Bhawan. We do a lot of different craft work here, mostly stuff related to fashion and traditional clothing. It is a busy little market and we seem to fit right in with the rest of the shops. We have shelves full of beads, thread, and many half-finished pieces waiting for attention. It definitely isn't the cleanest place because there is always something being made or fixed. We don't have any mission statement or big goals written on the wall. We just like making things with our hands. People come in looking for specific crafts for weddings or big local festivals. We spend a lot of time sitting on the floor or at these low tables working on the tiny details. It can be pretty hard on the eyes after a few hours of work. Lohta is a place where people really appreciate handmade things, so we manage to stay pretty busy throughout the year. We don't really do much on the internet; most of our business comes from people walking past the shop or hearing about us from their friends at the market. Some days the market is so crowded you can barely move, but that is just part of being on Station Road. We have been in Umrai Bhawan for a few years and it feels like home now.
