We operate out of D-7/10 in Sakarkand Gali, which is right by Meer Ghat. If you have ever walked through the lanes of Varanasi, you know they are narrow and full of life. Our building is old, with thick walls that keep the heat out during the summer months. Most of our work involves packing up books to be sent out, so there is always a lot of brown tape and cardboard boxes lying around the floor. It can get a bit messy, especially on Mondays when we have a lot of orders to get through. We have a couple of computers set up on old wooden tables. The windows look out onto the alley, and we can hear the sound of bells and people walking down to the river. Sometimes a cow will block the entrance for a bit, and we just have to wait it out. It is a very traditional part of town, so things don't happen in a hurry here. We have a small corner where we keep the inventory, and it is a constant struggle to keep the dust off everything. The stairs up to the office are steep and narrow, so you have to be careful when carrying heavy stacks. It is a busy little spot, but it has a lot of character that you won't find in a modern office park. We just focus on getting the books out to the people who want them.
