Hindusthan Automobiles is situated on Ram Nagar Road. It’s a busy stretch of pavement and we have been here for more years than I can easily count. The shop is a basic setup where we handle mechanical repairs for all sorts of vehicles. It isn’t a large facility, so things can get a bit tight when we have three or four cars in at the same time. The noise from the road is constant, with horns honking and people shouting, but we’ve grown used to it over time. We don’t have any fancy office staff or a polished reception area. Usually, you’ll find us in our coveralls, covered in a bit of oil, just getting through the daily list of jobs. We have a couple of old fans that struggle to keep the place cool in the summer heat. Most of our tools are well-worn but they still do the job just fine. We get a lot of local folks who live nearby and they usually just drop their cars off and walk home. We try to be straightforward about what needs fixing and what can wait. It’s a practical way of doing things. We stay open until late evening most days because there is always one last job to finish. The tea guy comes by twice a day, which is something we always look forward to. It’s just a regular neighborhood garage that has stayed the same while the world changed.
