Our office is set up over in Bhanjanpur, Mirzamurad, which is on the outskirts of Varanasi. We are based out of Shyam Sunder Shukla’s place, so it feels more like a home than a cold business office. Being out in Mirzamurad means we are away from the main city chaos, which is nice, though it takes a while to get into town if we need something specific. We have a few rooms dedicated to the foundation work. It’s mostly just desks, some old cupboards full of files, and a lot of pens that always seem to go missing when you need one. The people around here all know us, and we know them. It’s that kind of place where you can’t walk down the street without stopping five times to chat. We handle all sorts of small tasks and try to be a point of contact for anyone in the village who needs help with paperwork or just some advice. It’s not glamorous work. There’s a lot of sitting and waiting, and a lot of drinking tea while we discuss the day’s plans. We don’t have a big marketing budget or anything like that. We just rely on people knowing who we are and what we do. It’s a slow pace of life, but we like it that way.
