Chaurasya Gen Store

If you walk down Kabir Road in the Lahurabir area of Varanasi, you will find Chaurasya Gen Store. I have been running this shop for quite a while now. Varanasi is a city that never really sleeps, and Lahurabir is right in the thick of it. My shop is a small place, filled with all kinds of things that people in the neighborhood might need. I spend my days behind the counter, watching the world go by through the front door. It’s a lot of work keeping everything in stock and organized, but I’ve got my own system that works for me. It isn't a supermarket; it’s just a local general store. Sometimes the shelves look a bit crowded, but I know exactly where everything is. People stop in for a quick item and end up staying to chat for ten minutes. That is just how things go here. Kabir Road is always noisy with bells and horns, but inside it’s just a normal shop. I don't use any fancy computers to keep track of things, mostly just a pen and a notebook. I’ve been in this spot so long that I can tell who is coming just by the sound of their voice. It’s a basic life, but it keeps me busy and I like being my own boss. There are no corporate rules here, just me doing my best every day for the people who stop in. It’s hard work, but it’s good.
