Banaras Hair Cutting Saloon

Banaras Hair Cutting Saloon is right at the Andhra Phul Crossing in Teliyabag, Varanasi. Being on the main road means there is always a lot of noise and movement right outside our door. We have been in this location for many years, and the shop has seen a lot of changes in the city. It’s a small place, but we make the most of the space we have. We have the old-style heavy barber chairs that have been polished so many times the metal is smooth. We mostly do haircuts and shaves for the men who live in Teliyabag or those just passing through the crossing. There is a ceiling fan that stays on all day to help with the Varanasi heat. We usually keep a stack of newspapers on the wooden bench for anyone waiting their turn. I learned the trade from my father right here in this shop. We don't have any computers or fancy booking systems, you just walk in and if a chair is free, you sit down. The mirrors are old and have a bit of character to them. We spend a lot of time cleaning the razors and making sure the towels are fresh. It’s a busy life being on the main road, but we like the energy of the crossing. We just focus on giving a clean cut and a smooth shave to whoever walks through the door.
