Aartnad Foundation

Our place is located at Araji No. 124 in Sankatha Nagaranouli. Being here in Varanasi, things are always moving fast, but our corner is relatively quiet compared to the main ghats. The foundation came together because we saw a lot of gaps in how people were getting support in our own backyard. It is a local effort, run by people who live right here in the neighborhood. We don’t have a marketing team or anything like that. We just show up every morning and see what the day brings us. Sometimes we are helping with school stuff for the kids, and other times it’s just about helping an elder navigate some local system they find confusing. The office is small and gets a bit dusty with the Varanasi wind, but it is home to us. We have known most of the people around here since we were kids. That makes the work feel a lot more personal. You can’t really walk down the street without stopping to talk to five different people. That’s how we find out what actually needs doing. We aren't trying to change the whole world, just our little piece of it. It takes a lot of patience. Some days are slow and nothing seems to happen, then the next day everyone needs help at once. We just take it as it comes. It is honest work and it keeps us busy enough throughout the year.
