Gujarat Saw Mill

You can hear Gujarat Saw Mill before you see it. We are over at Plot No. 317-1 in the 40 Shed Area of Gidc, Vapi. The sound of the saws is constant from morning until evening. There’s sawdust everywhere—on the floor, on our clothes, and even in our hair by the end of the shift. Vapi is a busy place, and this 40 Shed Area is always full of activity. We’ve been cutting wood at this location for a long time. The equipment is old but we keep it oiled and sharp. It’s a noisy, messy job, but there’s something satisfying about seeing the logs turn into clean planks. Sometimes the logs arrive late because of the traffic on the highway, and we have to stay late to finish up. We don’t have a website or any of those modern things. People just know where we are. My brother handles the deliveries while I stay here to watch the machines. We have a small dog that hangs around the shed and barks at the delivery trucks. It’s a simple life. We deal with local builders and furniture makers mostly. The heat in Vapi can be brutal in the summer, especially under a tin roof, but we just drink more water and keep going until the job is done for the day.
