Astro Optics Pvt. Ltd. is tucked away at Plot No. C1B/17 in the GIDC. Working with optics is a bit different from the heavy metal work some of our neighbors do. It’s a lot quieter in our shop compared to the rest of the street. We have to keep things a bit cleaner because dust is not good for lenses, though it's a constant battle with the industrial estate right outside our door. The lighting inside is very bright so we can see what we are doing on the benches. We’ve got a few specialized machines that have been with us since we started. They make a low humming sound that you get used to after a few hours of work. The team here is small, just a handful of us who know the technical side of the glass. We don't have a big fancy lobby for visitors to sit in. If you come by, you’ll probably just walk straight into the workspace where we are busy at the grinders or checking the polish under the lamps. Most of our day is spent looking through eyepieces or adjusting the settings on the equipment. It’s slow, careful work, and you can't really rush it if you want it to come out right. We take our breaks together and talk about the cricket scores or the weather. We aren't trying to be the biggest company, we just want to get the pieces finished properly.
