Sainath Hospital

Working on Red Cross Road means it is always busy outside. Sainath Hospital has been here for a bit, and we see a lot of people coming through those doors every day. I start my shift early when the sun is just coming up. The floor is usually still wet from the morning cleaning. It smells like disinfectant mostly. I sit at the desk and look at the files. They are stacked up high. Sometimes the phone rings and it’s someone asking for directions or checking on a relative. We have these plastic chairs in the hallway that are always full by noon. The tea stall around the corner is where most of us go during breaks to get out of the building for ten minutes. It’s not a quiet place, you can always hear a cart rolling or someone talking in the next room. We just try to keep things moving so nobody has to wait longer than they have to. The windows look out onto the street where the traffic never seems to stop. Sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming with all the noise, but you just put your head down and get back to the paperwork. I know most of the people who work here by their first names. We don’t talk about much besides what needs to be done next. It’s just a job in a busy spot, helping people who come in from the road.
