Our place is over at Plot No- 711 in the New Gidc area. S. J. Textile is basically just an industrial unit where we spend most of our waking hours. If you walk inside, you’ll hear the constant hum of the machinery. It’s not the quietest environment, but it means we’re getting work done. The air usually smells a bit like dust and machinery oil, which is just part of the textile business. We don't have a big reception area or a glossy sign out front. Most people who come here are truck drivers or workers from the neighboring plots. We focus on the production side of things, making sure the textiles come off the line looking like they should. It’s a lot of manual work, moving heavy rolls and checking for flaws in the weave. Some days the heat in the Gidc gets to be a bit much, but we keep the fans going and stay on task. We aren’t interested in corporate talk; we’re just here to do a job and go home to our families. The floor is concrete and the lights are those long tubes that flicker sometimes. It’s a very practical setup designed for work, not for showing off. We’ve been in this plot for a while now and we know the rhythms of the industrial estate pretty well by heart. It’s just how we make our living, one day at a time.
