Our mill is located at Plot No. 298/299 in Phase 2 of the GIDC. It’s a large space, which we need for all the paper and the big machinery. The sound of the rollers is constant here; it’s a low hum that you stop hearing after being here for twenty minutes. We deal with a lot of waste paper that gets piled up in the yard before it goes into the pulper. It’s a messy job sometimes, with water and scrap bits of paper everywhere, but there’s a rhythm to it that feels good. The office is just a partitioned-off section near the front gate. It’s usually humid because of the steam from the production line. We’ve got a few computers and a lot of logbooks where we track the tonnage for the day. There are no fancy decorations, just some old photos of the plant when it was first built. The crew works in shifts, so the place never really sleeps. We have people who have been with the mill since the beginning, and they’re the ones who know exactly how to tweak the settings when the paper isn't coming out right. It’s hard, physical work, and the Vapi heat doesn't make it any easier. But at the end of the day, seeing those giant rolls ready for shipping is a good feeling for all of us.
