We are over at 288/6 Gidc, not too far from the main entrance of the estate. The space is filled with rolls of velvet and other fabrics we handle for Samrat Velvets. It’s a lot of heavy lifting moving those rolls around, so we’re usually pretty tired by the end of the day. The lighting inside isn't the best, but we have some big windows that let in enough sun to see the colors clearly. We spend a lot of time checking the edges of the cloth for any pulls or weird spots. It’s a dusty job because of all the fibers flying around, so we all wear old clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. There’s a cat that hangs around the back door and we give it some milk now and then. It keeps the mice away from the fabric, so it’s a fair trade. We don't have a receptionist or anything like that. If the phone rings, whoever is closest to the desk just picks it up. Most of our customers have been buying from us for years, so they know the drill. We just keep our heads down and work through the stack of orders. It’s a simple life here in the shed. We don't need much else besides a working machine and enough coffee to keep us going through the afternoon stretch.
