We are over at Plot No. 157/158 in the 2nd Phase of Gidc in Vapi. It is a fairly large space compared to some of the others around us. Being in the textile business, the air inside our mill is always full of tiny bits of lint and thread. You can hear the constant clatter of the looms from the street before you even walk in. It is a very rhythmic sound that you eventually get used to. The floors are often covered in rolls of fabric or big bags of raw material. We have high ceilings with big exhaust fans to try and keep the dust down. Vapi gets very humid, so the atmosphere inside can feel quite heavy at times. We have a small office near the front where we handle the billing and talk to the transporters. There is a lot of back and forth with the workers about the weave patterns and the machine settings. It is a 24-hour operation sometimes, so there is always someone on-site, even in the middle of the night. We have a small tea station in the back where the stove is almost always on. The walls are lined with samples of different cloths we have made over the years. It isn't a clean or quiet job, but there is a certain satisfaction in seeing the finished rolls stacked up and ready to go out to the markets.
