Balaji Tape Industries

Our workshop, Balaji Tape Industries, sits at Plot No. J2337 in Phase-3 of the GIDC in Vapi. Vapi is a very industrial town, and our street is no different. We make different kinds of tapes here. The machines are long and take up most of the floor space. They make a whistling sound as the tape rolls through the cutters. It is a bit sticky at times because of the adhesives we use. We keep the rolls stacked up in the back on wooden pallets. The warehouse part of the building is always a bit cooler than the front. We have a small office area, but it’s mostly used for keeping the ledger and the phone. We don't have a receptionist; if the bell rings, whoever is closest to the door goes to see who it is. Usually, it is just a delivery driver or a local customer. The weather in Vapi can be very rainy, and sometimes the roof leaks a little, so we have to move the stock around to keep it dry. It’s just part of the job. We have been here for a long time and know most of the people on this road. We work hard, eat our tiffins, and make sure the tapes are cut right. It is a basic, honest way to make a living. We don't do much marketing, mostly just word of mouth between the local shops and factories in the area.
