We are located at Plot No. A/212 in the Plastic Zone of the Gidc Estate. It has been our spot for quite a while now. The building is nothing special to look at, just a regular shed with a heavy metal door that we have to grease every few months. Inside, it’s mostly just the machines and the stacks of raw material waiting to be processed. The air always smells a bit like warm plastic, which I guess you get used to after the first week. My desk is tucked in the corner behind some crates. It’s usually covered in paperwork and old tea cups. We start early before the sun gets too high because the tin roof makes the place feel like an oven by mid-afternoon. The guys who work the machines are local, mostly from around the estate. We spend most of the day shouting over the noise of the grinders. When the power goes out, which happens more than we’d like, everything goes silent and we all just sit outside on the steps until it comes back on. Dealing with the suppliers takes up a lot of my time. They pull up in those big trucks and block the narrow road for an hour. It’s a messy business but it keeps us busy. We don’t have any fancy signs or a big lobby. Just the work being done day after day. It’s just how things are here.
