We are situated at Plot No. A1/203 on Road No. 2 in the Gidc Estate. If you know the area, Road No. 2 is always packed with trucks and people moving crates around. Our place is right in the middle of all that noise. Inside the shed, we have rows of fabric rolls stacked up to the ceiling. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and moving things around to find the right pattern. The floor is usually covered in lint and small scraps of cloth that the brooms never quite catch. We have a few long tables where the cutting happens. It’s a simple setup, nothing like those modern factories you see on TV. We have a small crew and most of us have been working together for years, so we don't need to talk much to get the job done. The heat gets pretty bad under the roof during the summer months, so we keep the big doors open to catch whatever breeze comes through the alley. Lunch is usually eaten sitting on some of the wrapped rolls near the back. We handle the orders as they come in and try not to let the paperwork pile up too high on the desk. It’s a busy life here in Gidc. You start the morning with a list and hope you get through it by the time the sun sets. Sometimes the rainy season floods the road, but we stay dry inside.
