Sikki Kala Handicraft Producer Company Limited

We are over here at Mahendra Kamat’s house, number 112, in the village tola of Sarbsima. This is in the Lohana South Block area. It's not a big fancy office or anything, just a place where we get the Sikki Kala work done. Most of us around here know the craft from our parents and it’s how things have always been. We decided to make it official with Sikki Kala Handicraft Producer Company Limited so we could organize a bit better. The village is quiet and we spend most of our days working with the grass and making things that people can actually use. It is a lot of work and sometimes the weather makes it hard to dry things properly, but we manage. People come by the house when they need something specific or just want to see what we have finished recently. Sarbsima is a small place but everyone knows where the Kamat house is. We don't have a big marketing team, just our hands and the materials we find locally. It is just a group of us trying to keep the tradition going while earning a living at the same time. Sometimes it's noisy when everyone is gathered, but mostly it's just the sound of work. We aren't looking to become some giant corporation, just want to do right by the people here and keep the Sikki art alive in our own way.
