Yogeshwar Plywood

Open the door at Yogeshwar Plywood and the first thing you notice is that smell of cut wood. We are located over in Karelibaug, near Masjid Bunder, which is a place that stays pretty crowded most of the time. Our shop isn't fancy. It’s mostly just stacks of plywood leaning against the walls and some samples lying around on the counters. People come in looking for stuff to fix their kitchen or maybe build a new cupboard. We spend a lot of time measuring things out and moving heavy sheets around so people can see the grain or the thickness. Sometimes the phone rings and it’s someone asking for a price, and other times it’s just a neighbor dropping in to say hello. Working with wood means your clothes are always a bit dusty by the end of the shift. We’ve got some old ledgers we still use because the computer sometimes acts up when it gets too hot in the afternoon. We just try to get through the list of what needs to be delivered each day. The traffic around the masjid can get a bit tight, so getting the tempo loaded and out on time is always a bit of a challenge for the boys. It is a simple life here, just keeping the shop going and making sure the inventory stays topped up so nobody leaves empty-handed. We usually close up when the streetlights come on and things start to quiet down a bit.
