Volco Industries

Our unit, Volco Industries, is at 69, Gidc on Waghodia Road in Baroda. If you know the area, it is right in the heart of the industrial belt. We have a fairly large shed where all the production happens. It’s usually quite loud with the sound of metal and machines clanking. We don't have a lot of fancy office staff; most of us are usually out on the floor making sure the machines are running right. There is always a layer of dust on the windows, and the yard is usually full of raw materials waiting to be used. We follow a pretty basic routine every day. We start early, check the machines, and get to work. Lunch is usually whatever we brought from home, eaten quickly before getting back to it. The road outside can get pretty rough during the monsoon, but we manage to keep things moving. We aren't doing anything groundbreaking, just manufacturing parts and items as per the orders we get. It's a lot of physical work and the days are long. We just want to finish our tasks and get home. We’ve been at this Gidc spot for years and it feels like home to us now, despite the noise and the grease. We don't mind the grime as long as the work gets finished and the day is done.
