Shyam Timber

Shyam Timber is located at Race Course Circle, specifically 30th Cross on Swagath Main Road in Tilak Nagar. Our spot is SB-3. If you walk by, you’ll smell the wood immediately. It’s a nice smell, actually. We have stacks of planks and logs piled up everywhere. It’s a bit of a maze inside the yard. We deal with all kinds of wood for building houses or making furniture. The saws are going for most of the morning. It gets sawdust on everything, including our clothes. We don't wear suits here; it wouldn't make sense with all the dust. The shop has been at this Tilak Nagar address for a long time. My father started it, and now we just keep it going. We know which wood is good for what. People come in asking for advice on their home projects. We just tell them what we think based on the grain and the weight. We don't have a fancy showroom. You just look at the stacks and pick what you need. Sometimes the delivery truck gets stuck in the narrow street, which is always a headache. We drink tea and wait for the traffic to clear. It’s a slow-paced business in some ways, but there’s always something to cut or move. We like the work. It’s tactile and real. You can see what you’ve done at the end of the day. It is better than sitting in front of a screen all day long.
