Painting House

Being on Waghodia Road means there is always noise from the traffic and people moving about. We’ve been running Painting House here in Vadodara for a good bit now. It’s a simple shop, really. We spend most of our time surrounded by cans of paint and different sized brushes. There’s always a faint smell of turpentine or fresh paint in the air, which you just get used to after a week. People stop by on their way home from work. Some know exactly what they want, others just stare at the color cards for an hour. We don’t mind the wait. Vadodara has changed a lot since we first started, but this stretch of Waghodia Road feels pretty much the same. We have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. Finding a specific shade sometimes requires the old wooden ladder we have in the back. It’s a bit rickety and makes noise, but it does the job. My cousin helps out on the weekends when it gets busy. We aren't some big corporate chain. It's just a local place where we know many of the faces coming through the front door. Sometimes we stay late to reorganize the stock when new shipments come in. It gets a bit dusty, but that’s just part of the business. We keep the doors open to catch the breeze when the weather is nice. Just Painting House, doing what we do every day.
